About Eastern TuitionEastern Tuition
My Background
My name is Catherine Stewart and I have provided tuition to many students over the last 15 years in a number of cities/towns within New Zealand. I have a Science Degree from Massey University with a major in Microbiology. As part of my degree I completed a significant number of biochemistry and mathematics papers. I also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Human Resource Management).
My employment history includes laboratory work and more recently IT roles in healthcare and university environments.
Eastern Tuition Tutoring started for me years ago as a way of making some extra money during secondary school and university. I enjoyed working with students and kept up the tuition in addition to my regular full-time work and what started out as means to an end, quickly became a passion! I started Eastern Tuition because of my interest in assisting and encouraging students with their learning but soon found that the demand for the services provided meant that I couldn’t do it all by myself and I employ a number of talented and friendly tutors to help me out. My aim is to be able to offer assistance to any student who wants or needs it. We work out of my home in Pakuranga, Auckland.
Teaching Style In order to get the best possible results for our students we work in parallel to work being taught in the classroom. Where possible, and with the agreement of the student and his/her parents, we also like to work as closely as possible with their school teachers. We have found this approach to be very successful and have seen some fantastic improvements in our students.
I believe that each student has their own personal style of learning and I aim to customise every lesson to the individual student. Before placing the student with a specific tutor I will personally assess them to determine the best tutor match. I look at level of skill and understanding, learning style and the personality of each student. I like to spend some time getting to know each student and their parents so that we can move forward together. Students come to us for a wide variety of reasons. Some are excellent students hoping to improve even further, some are aiming for specific programmes at university. Some are struggling at school because they been unable to attend classes for long periods of time and some just find the work difficult.
I have found that more often than not, the biggest problem is a lack of confidence. By making lessons enjoyable we have found that confidence improves quickly and the test results soon follow!
